In December a group of Japanese education leaders visited the Bridge
Since September 2009, Japanese has been introduced at the Bridge in various ways:

  1. At KS3, the year 8s have been learning Japanese as part of Opening Minds Learning to Learn Competency and will be one of the languages taught as part of a Year 9 project in the Spring term.
  2. At KS4, a lunchtime enrichment club is on offer teaching Japanese language and culture through Manga.
  3. On staff well-being day, Japanese proved to be a very popular choice amongst support, teaching and leadership staff.
  4. In December a group of Japanese Education Leaders visited the Bridge Academy and they were greeted in Japanese by staff and learners alike.
  5. Just before Christmas, the Bridge timetable was collapsed for a Cross-Curriculum Day where learners went around different continents and countries with a passport. Of course, Japan was visited too!

Future plans:
  1. Introduction of Japanese language modules to complement the KS4 vocational offers.
  2. Trip to Japan?
  3. Sports link with Japanese schools – table tennis tour?
  4. Visit to Japanese Embassy – cultural workshops
  5. Visits to Japanese supermarkets, restaurants in west and central London
  6. Japanese Anime Club
  7. Bilingual exchange through Japan-UK live
  8. Japanese/Japan related visits to the Bridge – taiko drumming/manga drawing/martial arts training and more.
  9. Links with local schools and colleges to offer Japanese from primary to upper secondary levels.
  10. Links with other similar schools nationally offering Japanese to share ideas and expertise.
  11. Japanese garden with water feature in the new BSF school?
  12. …………??
We are open to any other suggestions – feel free to leave these on our blog.
